What if my child is absent?

Daily school attendance is critical to your child's success. They must be on time and present at school unless they are ill or there is an emergency. Students are expected to attend school daily so we hope parents will set those same standards for their children. The following procedures are designed to keep the school and parents informed about absences:

  • Notify the school before 9:00 a.m. if your child is to be absent.
  • When your child is absent and no message has been received from the parents, someone from the school will phone the parents.
  • Send a note to the teacher upon return explaining the reason for your child's absence.
  • Students are responsible for all schoolwork missed during their absence.
  • Please do not send children to school when they are ill. The health of all children depends upon keeping contagious diseases isolated at home.

What if my child must leave school early?

Occasionally, parents may need to take their child home before the usual dismissal time. Parents must get office permission before taking a child out of class. All children must be signed out from the office. They will not be released from the classroom. This is a safety precaution to ensure that no authorized person may take a child. No student will be allowed to walk home prior to dismissal time unless the responsible party signs them out. Also, no student will be released from school to any person other than the parent or legal guardian unless the school has positive proof that the parent having custody or legal guardianship has given permission for the release. In the event parents are legally separated, the school shall release the student only with the consent of the parent who has custody.

What should my child do if he/she is tardy?

If your child is late for school you must check them into the school office for a tardy slip before they will be admitted to class. It is preferred that a child come to school for part of the day rather than miss the entire day. Any student who does not attend class, but stays on campus, or leaves the campus without permission will be considered to be truant (or ditching) and subject to disciplinary action and juvenile court referral.

What are the school bus rules?

Our primary responsibility (for both the driver and the students) is to make the bus ride safe. Therefore, the privilege of our students to ride a school bus is contingent upon their observance of safety rules and acceptable behavior. Students who behave inappropriately and do not follow bus rules will be subject to discipline up to and including suspension from all bus riding privileges. If there is a problem with your child on a bus, misconduct forms will be used to ensure proper communication between parents, students, and the bus driver. Please review the Bus Rules and Regulations with your child, and then sign and return the form to school.
